The total recovery of this amphitheater was firstly considered in a global project planned in January 2008, which considered the action in the caveas and the surroundings, but finally just the south cavea was restored, including a number of archeological activities that ended up in the “discovery” of the previous rampart of the city, its north face and the former drainage system which crossed the amphitheater and which was obstructed during the building of the amphitheater.
This project was draft with the following material and functional objectives. Among the first ones, the following stand out: the elimination and reduction of the thrust of the land accumulated in the batter of the walls, the control and rapid evacuation of rainwaters from the base of the walls and the base of the ramparts, the protection of exposed crests and the introduction of the concept of sustainability in the procedure. The main goals regarding the functional objectives were: improving the general conditions of access, strengthening physical security in the building, and properly locating the areas for complementary uses.
